Early MLB Money Makers on the Moneyline

The new MLB season is just two weeks old there has already been some fast starts that nobody saw coming as well as some bad starts out of the gate that have cast a shadow on a few of the top contenders for this season’s World Series title.

When it comes to betting on the games at your favorite online sportsbook, the early results through this past Tuesday night’s action single out a few teams that have been a financial boon on a MLB moneyline bet.

The team at the top of the list is the New York Mets in the National League East with an overall return of plus $950 on a $100 bet in each of their first 10 games. This is easy to see when you have won nine of those contests. The Mets have closed as underdogs in four of those games with the only loss coming against St. Louis on April 1 as +140 home underdogs. Their biggest win as +163 road underdogs was a 6-5 upset against the division rival Washington Nationals last Sunday to pull off the three-game sweep.

New York has won the first two games of this week’s three-game road series against Miami and it will play host to the Milwaukee Brewers for three games starting this Friday night. Another hot betting team in the National League would be the 8-3 Arizona Diamondbacks with an overall return of plus $678. They have made most of their money at home with a plus $434 return. Arizona is an even 3-3 when closing as favorites, but it has gone a perfect 5-0 when closing as an underdog.

The Diamondbacks are coming off Tuesday’s 5-4 loss to the NL West rival San Francisco Giants as slight -106 road favorites to temper their earnings a bit. They will wrap up that series on Wednesday before heading down the California coast for a big three-game weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

When a team wins nine of its first 10 games, bettors along for the ride are going to win as well. That has been the case in the American League with the Boston Red Sox’s blazing 9-1 run out of the gate to take an early two-game lead over Toronto in the AL East. The simple fact that Boston has been favored in every one of its games has tempered this return to plus $736. Its return at home is plus $400 and it has returned a plus $336 through six games on the road. Boston’s lone loss of the season was a 6-4 setback against Tampa Bay in its season opener as a -167 road favorite. The Red Sox extended their winning streak to nine games by making an early statement against the New York Yankees in Tuesday’s 14-1 romp as -130 home favorites. Boston will play two more home games against its bitter rivals before welcoming Baltimore to Fenway for an extended four-game set starting on Friday night.

The next best bet in the AL so far has been the Los Angles Angels with a positive return of $609 on a record of 9-3. This fast start has them tied with Houston for first place in the AL West. Most of the gains have come on the road ($387) with five wins in their first six road games. The fact that the Angels lead the AL in runs scored (79) by a wide margin has also made them a solid bet on the total line with eight of their first 11 games going OVER the closing line.

Los Angeles has already won two of its first three road games against Texas this week and it will move on to Kansas City this Thursday for the first of four road games against the Royals.
